Introduction

Psychology is very useful and important for a teacher when dealing with students and managing the classroom activities. Psychology is very useful on every hand such as to understand the diversity students in the class, to understand emotions of students, for acquisition of knowledge about learning, to understand the nature of students, in order to make use of inborn preferences of students and to perform the task of assessment evaluation successfully.

Let's see it in detail.

The most important and accepted definition is psychology is the scientific study of behavior and mental processes. Scientific is meant; psychology assembles along the scientific method. First, we should make a hypothesis and do the experiment, at last come to a conclusion. So, the study of psychology is done in a scientific way. Behavior is meant; behavior can be observed by others an it can be recorded and measured. Mental process is thinking, recalling, emotions (or passions), motivation, cognition (or brain power) and trust. Every living being is having a mental process. It is common to all living being so psychology is actually the study of behavior and mental processes.

Psychology is very important and useful for a teacher when dealing with students and managing the classroom. Psychology is useful in every hand such as, to understand the diversity students in class, to understand emotions of students, for acquisition of knowledge about learning, to understand the nature of the students, in order to make use of inborn preferences of students and to perform the task of assessment evaluation successfully.

Psychology helps the teacher to understand the nature of the students. In classroom teacher can’t accept all students in same mental state. There are 40 different individuals in different psychological mental and oral cognitive development stages. There are teacher has to find each student separately. If not considering each child as same level, teacher can’t teach the students. There are students who needs special affection. Some seeks love from teacher. They expect much close relationship of teacher. Teacher should identify them. If not, teacher can’t teach all students equally.

To understand diversity among students, teacher need psychology. In classroom, there may be some students who good at Mathes some are good for science or aesthetic. So, teacher has to identify diversity of them. Everybody cannot be musician or mathematician. If students have leadership quality teacher has to identify it. If teacher gives to draw a chart who have leadership qualities, it is useless. Teacher should appoint the student according to their diversity. If not, teacher has to suffer handling them.

For acquisition of knowledge about learning teacher must use psychology. Not all students study in same level. They are in different levels. When teach starts a lesson. She should be aware of ability level of students and how to teach them. If teacher knows psychology, she should know mental condition of student of acquisition of knowledge. When setting the time table Mathes, Science, English should be in morning session. If not, students cannot grasp them easily. Aesthetic, Buddhist should be set in last periods because of child’s mental condition. If teacher knows psychology she can manage the class easily.

In classroom may be inborn preferences. Some wants to learn science but they don’t want to learn English. Some come to school just to pass the time & spends the time with friends but they don’t want to learn. If one likes to be a social figure, teacher must give social works for him. His preferences are different so, teacher should give them opportunity to do social works. Teacher must understand inborn preferences of each student using psychology.

To perform the task of assessment and evaluation teacher can use psychology. Teacher has to teach and test the students. If teacher doesn’t know educational psychology, she can’t evaluate the students. If she gave a wrong evaluation, it affects the child, so she should use educational psychology to perform the task of assessment and evaluation If not may be the time he starts to hate school. It can influence to his whole life.

If the teacher is well knowledgeable with psychology, teacher can understand emotions of students by observing the behavior. If she is psychologically aware of them, students’ sadness, happiness, hungry, any condition can be understood.

Teacher should be able to direct students to learn through motivation. There are motivational methods. If she knows psychology, it’s easy to motivate students.

Educational psychology helps teacher to make students aware how to ensure transfer of learning into day today activities. If teacher applies knowledge of educational psychology, it helps her to make transfer of learning.

Teacher personally herself can understand, if she knows psychology. Then she can do introspection, improvement of one self. Then she can make a good teacher out of them. She has to see her drawbacks, mistakes.

Teacher should know educational psychology for the task of counselling. Each teacher is a counsellor. If she gives a correct advice, that is counselling. If a child is having a problem of own. Teacher can help him. Teacher can understand his suffering. The teacher can suggest remedies for it. That is counselling.

So, it is true that educational psychology is very important to a teacher to a perform her task well.
